Cool-n-Save FAQs

Is the Cool-n-Save System easy to install?

Yes! The Cool-n-Save System is easily installed in less than 10 minutes with NO TOOLS!

Will this increase my water bill a lot?

No!  You will see very little difference in your water bill whereas the unit only runs when the AC condenser is on. The amount of water per nozzle is only .3 gallons per hour, per misting nozzle. The Cool-n-Save should only add a little more than 5 cents per day to your water bill.

Will this create buildup on my condenser coils?

Without proper monthly maintenance, it is possible. Cool-n-Save’s special, proprietary filter works to prevent the small amounts of calcium, lime, or rust that can buildup on the coils. Although the water from the misting nozzles evaporates almost immediately, in certain climates some wetness may reach the coils. Just to be safe, it is always a good idea to spray down the outside of your condenser monthly with a 50/50 mixture of water and white vinegar and rinse it off. This is a good maintenance idea whether you have a Cool-n-Save system attached or not.

Will the Cool-n-Save system tie up my water faucet?

The Cool-n-Save doesn't have to tie up your water faucet. Although you need a continuous water source available to the system for it to work properly, you can buy a "Y" splitter from any hardware store which will allow you to leave the Cool-n-Save water supply running and still provide you access to the same faucet for other uses.

What if the misting nozzles get clogged?

Although it is unusual, there is a possibility that one or more of the misting nozzles may clog, especially if you have a high amount of minerals in your water. If this happens, simply remove the nozzles, soak them for about 5 minutes in a Lime or Hard Water removal product (LIME-A-WAY, CLR, etc. can be found at any hardware store) and then return them to their hose fittings.

Do I need to remove the Cool-n-Save for winter?

There is no reason to remove the Cool-n-Save flapper control valve from the top of your AC condenser.  However, it is recommended that you unhook the feed line from your water supply and drain it prior to cold weather. Failure to do so could result in freezing and cracking.

Does the Cool-n-Save system work on all AC condensers?

The Cool-n-Save system can be fitted to all residential air conditioning units which have the exchange air vents on top, which is the most common configuration.  If you purchased your Cool-n-Save for a Heat Pump, it is imperitive that you disconnect the water source when the outside air temperature is consistently below 75 degrees.  Running water during 'Heat Mode" will damage the Heat Pump.

If I have more than one AC unit, can multiple Cool-n-Saves be attached together to run off of one water source?

Yes, there are splitters in every box that will allow you to run several units in a chain.
